Australian Authors join Berkelouw Books to Celebrate 'Booktober' with Room to Read

On Saturday 26 October,

Berkelouw Books will welcome nine of Room to Read’s Writer Ambassadors to its stores around Sydney, in support of this global nonprofit’s mission to bring literacy to millions more children across Asia and Africa.

“Booktober is a worldwide opportunity to address the fact the 775 million people in the world are illiterate and that 67 million primary school aged children woke up this morning and didn’t go to school,” said Cory Heyman, Room to Read’s Chief Program Officer. “By joining or leading a Booktober event, participants can be part of the solution to this social injustice.

Since it was founded in 2000, Room to Read has:

  • benefitted 7.8 million children.
  • distributed over 13 million books
  • built over 15,000 libraries and
  • 1650 schools
  • supported 22,500 girls to complete secondary school.
