The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) is an international professional organisation for writers and illustrators of children's literature. It was founded in the US in 1971 by Lin Oliver and Stephen Mooser and is now the largest children's writing organization in the world. We are a community of children’s authors and illustrators and professionals committed to children’s literature. Our SCBWI Australia and New Zealand site is jam-packed with information about us, the industry and how to develop your craft and your career.

Each region is lead by a Regional Associate, an Assistant Regional Associate, and supported by enthusiastic and energetic volunteers. The home of SCBWI is the Literary & Arts Hughenden Hotel in Sydney. National Australian and New Zealand events are held at The Hughenden Hotel in Sydney. The NSW and ACT SCBWI region holds quarterly meetings and events at The Hughenden, where members share information, ideas, news and to hear from industry professionals.

The following chapters of SCBWI Australia and New Zealand also hold quarterly meetings in their States– chapters in Queensland; Victoria, Tasmania & South Australia; New Zealand

Australia West has a midyear retreat at Rottnest Island and quarterly meetings in Perth, Western Australia and regional locations.
